Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I know if my home is under-insulated?
  • There are a number of sure signs that your home is under-insulated.  Does your Air Conditioning unit run constantly?  Does your power bill seem to fluctuate dramatically throughout the different seasons?  Does your ceiling feel warm in the summer, and cold in the winter?  These are all possible indications of insufficient insulation.

How far in advance should I schedule my service?
  • We like to have at least three days notice, but during the busy times of year (early and mid-summer) we recommend giving us as much notice as possible so that we can get you on the schedule.

Will additional insulation help in the wintertime?
  • Absolutely!  Many people underestimate how cold the valley gets during the winter, not to mention the high country!  Anytime you are running the heating/air-conditioning, you could be losing climate controlled air due to a lack of insulation.

How long does the service appointment take?
  • This depends on the ease of access to the service area and the amount of insulation to be installed.  Most installations can take anywhere from 1-3 hours.

When you install additional insulation, do you have to cut holes in walls?
  • In most cases, no!  Most of the heat loss takes place through the ceiling and floors.  However, in some situations where our customers are trying to soundproof or otherwise insulate a room or house, we drill small holes in the drywall that can then be repaired after we complete the installation.  We do not perform drywall repairs, but are happy to recommend a great drywall company.

Why is my home under insulated?
  • Great question!  There could be a few answers for this, depending on how and when your home was built.  If it is an older home, the answer is pretty simple - contractors simply weren't as well educated on the tremendous benefits of a good layer of insulation.  If your home is newer, more than likely your home builder knew about the benefits of good insulation, but in the rush to get as many homes built as quickly as possible, cut a few corners.  We don't blame them too much though - because if they didn't cut corners, our business wouldn't have such a huge demand!   Insulation is a prime indicator of a home builder trying to move too quickly.  We've seen homes that have absolutely no insulation at all!

What is the R-Value?

  • R-value is the rating given which indicates how well the insulation resists heat transfer.  The higher the R-Value, the better the insulating properties.
